Who we are

This is radical hospitality.

I'm Gaby Mangeri, the heart and soul of Jugo, and I have spent more than twenty-five years cooking. I was born in New York, into a family of great home cooks, and that is where my palate got wide.

I moved to Barcelona in 1999, drawn by its street life, its bohemian air, its markets and those terraces where you could sit for as long as you liked with a two-euro glass of wine. That's where I met my husband, a Cordobés, and in 2010 I followed him to Córdoba with our daughter Uma, who was five months old.

Going from Brooklyn to Belalcázar to start an artist residency program was a revelation in every way. I'm a Manhattan girl who had never lived in a village. We were lucky enough to plant a permaculture garden and a vineyard, and that's where I started to understand that my real passion was hospitality, living food and natural wine, most of all with my hands in the soil. The years cooking at home and at the residency, for artists from all over the world, confirmed it.

In 2017 we moved to the city of Córdoba and opened Jugo, the first place for natural wine for miles around. That's where the food projects began to flower, and so did the collaborations with public and private institutions, and where we started working shoulder to shoulder with farmers and winemakers: people with a deep knowledge of the land and nature's cycles, and a real commitment to social change.

The space

Passionate about wine and about our friends' craft, we like to think of Jugo as a corner store where wine happens in the middle of it all: a get-together, a conversation, a slow tasting. Over the years it's been home to art shows, poetry readings, music from all over the world and community fermentation nights.

We're on the lively Plaza de San Andrés, a crossroads between downtown, the old quarter and the Axerquía. Come meet us: some things only happen in person, and a few things you'll only find in the shop.
